General Manager at Naventure

Ocala, Florida 

While you will be behind a desk at times, a large portion of your time will be spent at our various locations within the gorgeous Ocala National Forest. You will be working with the public and helping make their adventures happen. The main emphasis of this position is to provide leadership to all Naventure staff located in Ocala National Forest (ONF).   The ideal candidate for this position will have experience training staff to provide exceptional levels of customer service. Job Title: General Manager, Naventure 

Reports to: Director of Operations, Naventure Florida

Supervises:  All Naventure staff working in Ocala National Forest

Job Type: Year-round, salary position

Work Week: Minimum 40 hours per week; seasonally will work some weekends and Holidays.

Salary Range: $50,000-$60,000 annually plus opportunity for discretionary bonus

Company Overview: Naventure in Ocala National Forest is a subsidiary of Naventure, a North Carolina based company focused on providing concessionaire outsource services to the US Forest Service. Naventure holds a Special Use Permit issued by the Forest Service to operate campgrounds and day use areas located within the Ocala National Forest in Florida 365 days per year. The following sites are managed by Naventure in the Ocala National Forest:

  • Alexander Springs campground and recreation area

  • Buck Lake group campground

  • Clearwater Lake campground and recreation area

  • Juniper Springs campground, recreation area 

  • Juniper Wayside canoe take-out area

  • Hopkins Prairie campground and recreation area

  • Lake Dorr cabin

  • Mill Dam campground, recreation area, boat ramp

  • Silver Glen recreation area

  • Sweetwater cabin

  • Wildcat Lake recreation area

Position Summary: The General Manager is a year-round position based out of the Naventure office located at Juniper Springs Recreation Area, with responsibility for overseeing the daily operations of all sites managed by Naventure in ONF. This position provides permit compliance oversight as well as supports individual site management teams in achieving stated company goals. The General Manager ensures each site leadership team delivers in the following areas: managerial and administrative responsibilities required for successful operations such as keeping the sites in excellent condition as to cleanliness, repair, safety and appearance, providing best in class customer service, provide timely and accurate reporting of site operations. The General Manager is directly responsible for supporting all on-site Managers and staff, so they have the best opportunity to offer amazing experiences to all our guests.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed.   • Provide hands on training for all site Managers so they can be successful in their roles, with a heavy emphasis on customer service. 

  • Become familiar with Recreation.gov system to be able to train staff on the effective use of the system in the gatehouses.

  • Travel to all sites managed by Naventure is necessary to provide appropriate oversight of all staff.

  • Lead by example in demonstrating outstanding customer service to guests, including how to best handle upset guests.

  • Leads all staff recruitment, on-boarding, training, in coordination with individual site managers.

  • Assists site managers with conducting interviews with potential staff.  

  • Coach managers on how to best handle difficult conversations with staff, including potential disciplinary conversations. 

  • Oversees proper reporting of hourly employees’ time for payroll reconciliation on a weekly basis.

  • Works directly with other Management team members to resolve infrastructure issues and assists in providing proper maintenance reporting of completed work.

  • Leads efforts to provide a safe and enjoyable environment for visitors and campers, and that site rules are adhered to and carried out. Addresses issues of non-compliance accordingly.

  • Ensures regular safety inspections are completed and noted hazards are properly mitigated.

  • Provides on-call coverage for sites in the event additional administrative support is needed.

  • Other related duties as assigned.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

The following generally describes the knowledge and ability required to enter the position and/or be learned within a short period of time in order to successfully perform the assigned duties.

  • Requires knowledge and skill in general hospitality management, with an emphasis on managing multiple facilities and the various functions of the support staff in respective locations.

  • Must be able to work cooperatively with Naventure, United States Forest Service, and the public.

  • Effective staff trainer with record of building teams dedicated to outstanding customer service. 

  • Must possess computer skills, word processing, and database management applications. Experience with programs such as the reservation system offered through Recreation.gov.

  • Must demonstrate a commitment to delivering the highest quality of customer experience.

  • Must be comfortable working in a dynamic environment and possess skills and experience necessary to succeed in such an environment.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Prior experience that would demonstrate the qualifications necessary to perform the duties associated with the position.

  • Must possess a high school diploma.

  • Must possess a valid driver's license.

  • Must successfully complete a background check.

  • Environment: Work is performed primarily outdoors at the Recreation Areas in the Florida heat; incumbents may be required to work extended hours including evenings, weekends and holidays and may be required to attend meetings.

  • Physical: Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate to heavy amounts of weight; to operate building maintenance equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer/laptop/tablet; may travel to other locations using various modes of private and commercial transportation; and to communicate (verbally and written) and exchange information. While performing the duties of this position, the employee may be required to lift moderate amounts of weight.
