Ocala, FL (August 20, 2024) — Naventure, the managing entity of Ocala National Forest’s campgrounds and recreation areas, is excited to announce the launch of a new interpretive program. The first initiative, focusing on Florida’s vital aquifer system, will commence this month with the installation of a captivating mural at the Alexander Springs retail center.

Renowned artist Beth O’Connor will bring to life the fascinating story of Florida’s aquifers through her artwork. The mural will highlight:

• Formation and Function: How the aquifers were formed and their critical role in our ecosystem.

• Historical Significance: The interaction of early civilizations with these essential water sources.

• Wildlife Connection: The diverse species that depend on the springs and their habitats.

• Modern Uses: The importance of aquifers for recreation, drinking water, and agriculture.

• Future Protection: Ways to safeguard these resources for future generations.

Visitors are invited to witness the mural’s creation process firsthand. Beth O’Connor will be working on the mural over the span of a week starting on August 26. We encourage everyone to come by and engage with the artist during this time.
