Seasonal Updates

PISGAH NATIONAL FOREST, NC

While our sites may have limited access during the winter season, there are still abundant opportunities for you to relish the great outdoors. The winter season runs from November 16, 2023 through March 22, 2024; and summer season runs from March 22, 2024 through November 15, 2024. We warmly welcome and encourage you to explore and enjoy the natural beauty that surrounds us throughout all seasons!

Seasonal updates for Naventure sites at Pisgah National Forest are as follows:

Davidson River Campground & Recreation Area

  • Winter season Gatehouse hours for Davidson River Campground beginning 11/16/2023 are 10am-5pm.  

  • Guests may arrive any time after the Gatehouse closes; they will just be unable to buy firewood/ice.

  • Starting 11/16/2023, camping at Davidson River Campground will go to same day walk-ups. Any site not booked on Recreation.Gov will be available for walk ups for one night only. Visitors will pay with the Gatehouse directly between 10am-5pm, or in the fee tube after hours by check or cash. Reservations are still available and encouraged on Recreation.gov.

  • As of 11/16/2023, the following loops are closed for the season:

    • White Oak

    • Laurel

    • Poplar

  • Fire ban remains in effect for group sites. Fires are allowed at Lake Powhatan, Davidson River Campground, and North Mills River (However, North Mills River will restrict fires starting 11/23/2023, due to no host being on-site).

Lake Powhatan Campground & Recreation Area

  • Winter season Gatehouse hours for Lake Powhatan beginning 11/16/2023 are 10am-5pm.  

  • Guests may arrive any time after the Gatehouse closes; they will just be unable to buy firewood/ice.

  • Day Use will run through the end of November. Fees will continue to be charged as long as the bathrooms are available.  Bathrooms will be winterized before the first deep freeze. 

  • Entry fee is $5 per person.

  • Starting 11/16/2023, camping at Lake Powhatan will go to same day walk-ups. Any site not booked on Recreation.Gov will be available for walk ups for one night only. Visitors will pay with the Gatehouse directly between 10am-5pm, or in the fee tube after hours by check or cash. Reservations are still available and encouraged on Recreation.gov.

    • Pisgah Glamping

North Mills Campground & Recreation Area

  • Starting 11/23/2023, North Mills River will be entirely first come first serve - no reservations permitted. The water will be shut off; and there will be no dump station or restroom except for two pit toilets.

  • Fires at North Mills River will be restricted starting 11/23/2023 due to no host being on-site (until the ban is lifted).

  • Fire ban remains in effect for group sites.

Pisgah Glamping

  • Pisgah Glamping at Lake Powhatan is closed for the season and will reopen 03/22/2024.

Sunburst Campground

  • Sunburst Campground is closed for the season and will reopen 03/22/2024.

  • In 2024, Sunburst will start to require advance reservations via Receation.gov. Advance reservations are strongly encouraged due to limited number of sites.  There will be NO same day reservations. 

  • Any site not booked on Recreation.Gov will be available for walk-ups for one night only. Reservations can only be made one night at a time.

  • Fire ban remains in effect for group sites. Fires are allowed at Lake Powhatan, Davidson River Campground, and North Mills River (However, North Mills River will restrict fires starting 11/23/2023, due to no host being on-site).

Sliding Rock

  • As of 11/15/2023, Sliding Rock gatehouse and restrooms are closed for the season; nor are there any staff or lifeguards on duty. Visitors are encouraged to view the beautiful nearby Looking Glass Falls as an alternative. Sliding Rock will reopen on Friday, 05/24/2024 and will operate 7 days a week through Labor Day with an entry fee of $5 per person.

Wolf Ford Horse Camp

  • Wolf Ford Horse Camp is closed for the season and will reopen 03/22/2024.
